Earlier this year Forbes reported on the 2000 biggest companies in the world.

According to the Forbes website

These 2000 companies based across 60 countries, account for $30 trillion in revenues, $2.4 trillion in profits, $119 trillion in assets, $39 trillion in market value and employ 72 million people worldwide.

Not surprisingly Banking dominates in terms of numbers with 315 entries with Oil and Gas a somewhat distant second with 123 entries. The country with the most entries is the US although countries such as China, India and Brazil are rapidly catching up when compared with previous lists.

Irish banks AIB and BOI lead the way in 222nd and 271st places respectively closely followed by construction giant CRH in 280th. Next up are Anglo Irish 438th and Irish Life & Permanent 880th

Just outside of the top 1000 are the Experian Group in 1228th place, Micheal O Leary’s Ryanair in 1294th. Food ingredients manufacturer Kerry Group are in 1302nd followed by Smurfit Kappa at 1317. Drugs company Elan make up the Irish ten in 1937th place.
