Overview

The ability to be resilient in the face of ongoing pressure and change is a skill that is increasingly being valued by business leaders and Organisations are keen to find ways of helping their people build this skill.

By learning to become more resilient staff are able ‘to respond to stress in a healthy adaptive way’ and not only to be able to bounce back quickly after challenges but to grow stronger in the process.

The workshop will provide an experiential opportunity for people to understand the psychology and physiology of the stress response and find practical easy to use ways of managing pressure and building their abilities to overcome disappointment, setback and challenge.

Using the learning from psychology and modern research participants will explore strategies for preventing and managing unhealthy levels of stress taken from practices such as Mindfulness and Positive psychology.

Course Objectives:

After this interactive course participants will be able to:

  • Understand the differences between effective challenge and overwhelming stress
  • Know what happens to performance when pressure becomes too great
  • Identify early warning signals that stress is becoming an issue in oneself and others
  • Employ effective strategies for managing pressure and for building resilience
  • Have the confidence to support others in managing pressure

Throughout this highly interactive course there are opportunities to practice and test the skills you are learning.

  • Identifying personal triggers
  • Practice using ways of “reframing “situations and using psychological first aid
  • Identify practical ways of dealing with mounting pressure
  • Have the confidence to listen to and support colleagues
  • Use simple Mindfulness practices to build resilience

Designed for:

The workshop will benefit both leaders and staff.  By understanding and being able to recognise unhealthy levels of pressure in oneself and others, participants will be able to know how and when to use coping strategies for managing and supporting others and for building resilience to be able to cope with future challenges.  By understanding the balance between effective challenge and unhealthy stress managers will be able to recognise what happens to performance when stress levels get beyond the tipping point.

Managers and staff will build skills in understanding how to spot the early warning signs of unhealthy stress levels in their team and know how they can provide effective support and build the skills to bounce back from the current challenge and be able to cope with future pressures.
